PDX

Harlan and I enjoyed a recent trip to Portland to visit my mom's side of the family. We were there for 5 days while Mike stayed back and trained for a mountain bike race and hung out with Kitty. It was sunny and beautiful the whole trip, save for a ten minute torrential downpour. We returned to Gunnison to a week of dreary weather (rain, clouds, hail, even lightning). Fortunately, our garden has been growing like crazy. Caterpillars keep eating the spinach.

While in Portland, We went to the Oregon Zoo, out to dinner for my aunt Sandy's birthday, a little bit of shopping, but no trip to the beach this time around. We are looking forward to a 2 week trip to Maryland June 1-15th. Harlan did way better than I expected on the plane, and my arms got a lot stronger from carrying him around for a week! He's a walking boy now, and he has great balance. We're excited to teach him how to snowboard!

Mike completed one of the most technical mountain bike races in the nation yesterday. 64 miles, a total of 8000 ft. of climbing at Hartman Rocks, right outside of Gunnison. AND he did it in the rain and hail on a fully rigid single speed (no gears, no shocks!). We are so proud of him! Harlan and I watched him complete his first of two 32 mile laps, but he was going so fast he didn't even see us.

The Logan Family

Giggling, gurgling, screaming and drooling, these last few weeks have been a doozy! Trying to keep up with Harlan and still finish school has me a little stressed out. Family time always helps, and we really enjoyed consecutive visits from Mike, Mary Alice, Val, Chuck, & Alex! And what a good cause, Harlan's first birthday. First we went to Ouray, CO for a stay in an awesome motel and lots of relaxation in the Hot Springs. I've never seen Harlan so happy. Of course, my camera battery decided to die the moment little boy took his first swim. This past weekend we had about 20 people show up for Harlan's big celebration! He got some really cool books, a backpack, some Dr Suess 'piggy banks', new duds, even some baby crocs. Thanks everyone for helping us celebrate! A special thanks to Mike's family in Frederick for sending along so much cool stuff with Mike & Mary Alice! We look forward to seeing all of you this summer when we are in Maryland. If you want to mark the dates, we will be there June 1-15. Lots of love, see you soon!

All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth

We're getting all geared up for the holidays! We found a few santa outfits for Harlan at the thrift store yesterday. They gave me a $50 gift certificate for designing a new logo and brochure for them. We got a couple of pictures to hang on the wall, a mtn bike helmet for me, 2 outfits for Harlan, 2 hats, a belt, a headband, some mittens and we still have $30 left! There was an earthquake about 60 miles southwest of where my parents are moving in Panama (and where my dad is currently living). My pa gave me a call the other night and let me know everything as a-ok. if you haven't already, check out his blog. There's lots of work to be done down there! My mom and brother will be joining us for Thanksgiving, so we're looking forward to that and also anticipating the opening of Monarch Mountain! It's kind of a bummer we couldn't get passes to Crested Buttethis year, but $1200 is a little pricey for one resort. We tried out our new cross-country skis up around Lake Irwin the other day, that's going to be an awesome thing to do once we get more snow! We both fell a few times but that's just part of learning. I won my second climbing competition last night, but only the beginner level. I guess that means next time I have to enter in Intermediate! My friends and I all dressed up
We'll be sending out Christmas Cards soon!

Halloween and Some More

Our first Halloween went off without a hitch, with Harlan doubling as a lion and our li'l redneck baby! He's 7 months old now, sitting up on his own and he got his first two teeth. I've heard teething is really bad, but we didn't even notice until he smiled at me. We had some snow today, and it's been cold! Hope everyone had a great Halloween. I just got a new Mac laptop, which will make work a lot easier!

First Fire of Autumn

It's getting cold here in Gunnison, we've had teens and single digits at night already. It seems like last year it stayed warm until Thanksgiving! We're used to it by now. Mike has been diligently gathering firewood with his new Stihl chainsaw, we have about 6 cords. We burned 5 last winter. We have also been trying to get the last of our summer activities in, Mike with mountain biking and me with rock climbing. It's a bummer we don't get to go out and do stuff together, I'm sure Harlan will be able to go with us more often next summer. He's been riding around in his bike trailer lately and he seems to enjoy it. He'll be 7 months November 3rd, I'll be 23 November 8th! My new graphic design job is awesome, I get to work in my pajamas. School is going well too, I'm only taking 2 classes. We are getting really excited for Harlan's first Thanksgiving and Christmas, even though I've heard babies are more excited about wrapping paper than presents.
My parents are getting ready to start their big panamanian adventure, you can follow along on my dads blog: http://funkydishrag.com/bubbachuck/
He has lots of neat pictures up.
Harlan is going to be a lion for halloween, so check back for pictures in about a week! We hope everyone is doing well!
